On the dynamics of jet wiping: Numerical simulations and modal analysis

We analyze the flow of a planar gas jet impinging on thin film, dragged by vertical moving wall. In coating industry, this configuration is known as wiping, process in which jets control thickness liquid coatings flat plates withdrawn vertically from bath. present three-dimensional (3D) two-phase simulations combining Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and Volume Fluid (VOF). Three wiping configurations are simulated results validated with experimental data previous works. Multiscale modal analysis used to dynamic interaction between film. particular, we combination Proper Orthogonal decomposition (mPOD) correlation analysis. The mPOD identify dominant travelling wave pattern film flow, temporal structures determine most correlated features jet. This allows for revealing two-dimensional (2D) mechanism formation coat. Finally, use numerical validity some critical assumptions underpinning derivation integral models wiping.
